Les abattoirs
d'Anderlecht

Chronique d’une mort annoncée

WebDoc
2018
The headlights of the first vehicles that are activated on the site of the "slaughterhouses" of Anderlecht mark long light trails on the cobblestones and illuminate the silhouettes of some night owls. It is in this atmosphere of late night, where the faces are still stuck in the collars of the jackets, that the workers start their day.

These men are employees of two companies that rent the 5,000 square metres of slaughterhouse infrastructure for cattle, horses, sheep, pigs... About 230,000 animals are slaughtered there every year, which represents two to three percent of the market in Belgium.

For the series "Dans le secret des lieux", LaLibre.be went behind the scenes of this emblematic place located in the heart of the Brussels Region.
